ALLERGENS AND ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURES Early Exposure and Sensitization to Cat and Dog: Different Effects on Asthma Risk After Wheezing in Infancy

چکیده
RESULTS. Allergen-specific IgE antibodies were detectable in 23.9% of the newborns. Paired IgE values from CB plus maternal blood and CB plus paternal blood were available for 922 and 835 children, respectively. Contamination with maternal serum was excluded by several means of analysis, including the absence of IgA antibodies. Concordance between CB IgE and maternal IgE against the same allergen was very low for inhalant allergens; in contrast, the concordance for various food allergens was considerably higher, particularly for hen’s egg, cow’s milk, and soybean. The percentages of IgEnegative mothers and fathers were equal for children who were sensitized to seasonal allergens (both 47%) but differed strongly for children who were sensitized to food allergens (21.9% [mothers] vs 65.7% [fathers]). There was an inverse association between CB IgE and the amount of CB IFN(odds ratio: 0.69 [95% confidence interval: 0.58–0.83]).

متن کاملChildhood asthma and indoor allergen exposure and sensitization in Buffalo, New York.
This nested case-control study examined the association between prevalent asthma and indoor allergen sensitization and/or exposure among children (aged 5-17 years) in Buffalo, New York. The study included a self-administered questionnaire, clinical interviews, skin allergen sensitivity tests and home dust sampling for house dust mites, cat, dog, cockroach and mouse allergens. After adjusting fo...
متن کاملThe population attributable fraction of asthma among Canadian children.
OBJECTIVE We calculated the population attributable fraction (PAF) of Canadian childhood asthma due to modifiable environmental exposures, in order to estimate their relative contributions to asthma development based on the current literature. METHODS We conducted a systematic review to determine Canadian childhood asthma incidence, Canadian prevalence of exposure to airborne pollutants and i...
متن کاملHouse dust mite and cockroach exposure are strong risk factors for positive allergy skin test responses in the Childhood Asthma Management Program.
BACKGROUND Children with asthma have a high prevalence of environmental allergies, especially to indoor allergens. The relationships of exposure to indoor allergens (dust mites, cat, dog, cockroach, and molds) and other host factors to allergy sensitization have not been evaluated simultaneously in a large cohort. OBJECTIVES We studied 1041 children aged 5 to 12 years with mild-to-moderate as...
متن کاملExposure to traffic exhaust and night cough during early childhood: the CCAAPS birth cohort.
Though studies have investigated the association between air pollution and respiratory health outcomes in children, few have focused on night cough. The study objective was to simultaneously evaluate family factors (i.e., race, gender, maternal and paternal asthma, and breastfeeding), health (allergen sensitization and wheezing symptoms), home factors (dog, cat, mold, endotoxin, and dust mite),...
